- Wave a hand past the sensor to switch it on or off
- Three wide COB strips for what is in front of you, a center spot for what is further out
- Five modes, including a strobe SOS
- Built-in 1200 mAh rechargeable battery — charges over USB-C
Your hands stay where they are.
Press the sensor button once and Beam watches for a hand. Pass one in front of the lamp and it switches on; pass it again and it goes off. The manufacturer states the sensor responds within 0.1 seconds. It matters when your hands are full, cold or covered in whatever you were doing — carrying a pot to the water tap, holding a tent pole, working under a hood. The sensor is its own mode, so switch it off and Beam behaves like a plain headlamp again.

A band of light, not a dot.
Three white COB strips run across the front of the band. They throw a broad, even wash over the ground and over your hands rather than a single bright circle, which is the difference between finding a tent peg and hunting for it. A separate XPE spot lens sits in the middle for the times you need to look further out.

Five modes, one button.
The mode button steps through the COB strips on high, the COB strips on low, the center spot on high and the center spot on low. Hold it for three seconds for the strobe SOS. Low is the one for reading in a tent next to someone asleep; high is for walking back from the wash block.

One cable, one band, nothing to load.
The 1200 mAh battery is built in, so there are no cells to carry or lose in the dark. It charges through a USB-C port from a wall charger, a power bank, a laptop or a car socket; a cable comes in the box. The indicator on the housing shows red while it charges and green when it is full. The manufacturer states about 2 hours for a full charge and 2.5 to 8 hours of light, depending on the mode. The band is elastic with a buckle, and the lamp body is light enough to sit on a cap brim.

Rain on the walk back is fine.
Beam is rated IPX4, which the manufacturer describes as resistance to splashing water from any angle. A shower, wet hands and a damp tent are all within that. It is not made to be submerged, so do not take it swimming or leave it sitting in a puddle.

One, two or three.
One for yourself, two for a pair, three so there is one in the tent, one in the car and one that does not go missing. Every lamp in a pack is the same model — three white strips, 1200 mAh — and each comes with its own charging cable.

FAQ
How does the wave sensor work?
Press the sensor button to arm it, then pass a hand in front of the lamp to switch the light on, and again to switch it off. The manufacturer states it responds within 0.1 seconds. Press the sensor button again to turn the sensor off, which is what you want if you are working with your hands close to your face.
What do the two buttons do?
The first steps through the lighting modes and switches the lamp off; hold it for three seconds to reach the flashing mode. The second arms and disarms the wave sensor.
What are the modes?
Five: the COB strips on high, the COB strips on low, the center spot on high, the center spot on low, and a strobe SOS.
What comes in the two- and three-packs?
Two or three identical headlamps — three white COB strips, 1200 mAh — each with its own charging cable.
How long does a charge last?
The manufacturer states 2.5 to 8 hours, depending on the mode: the shorter figure is for the brightest setting, the longer for the low ones. A full charge takes about 2 hours over USB-C. We have not timed it ourselves.
Can I replace the battery?
No. It is built into the housing and charges in place. There is nothing to open and no spare cells to carry.
Can I wear it in the rain?
It is rated IPX4, which the manufacturer describes as resistance to splashing water from any angle. Rain on the walk back is fine. It is not made to be submerged, so do not take it swimming or leave it sitting in a puddle.
