FAQ
Is it ready to fish out of the bag?
Nearly. Mount the reel on the seat, open the rod, thread the line through the guides and tie on a lure or a hook. The reel arrives with line on it. Bait is not included.
Exactly which lures and hooks come with it?
The assortment in the pictures: soft plastic lures in several shapes, two metal spoons, two jig heads, hooks and a small clear box. Colors and exact shapes of the small parts can vary from batch to batch.
What size fish is it for?
Panfish, small bass, trout, perch and similar freshwater fish. The manufacturer rates the rod at 6–10 lb (about 2.7–4.5 kg), which also suits line in that range. It is a light travel rod, not gear for large or hard-fighting fish.
Can I use it in salt water?
It is listed for freshwater. If it does get used in salt water, rinse the rod and reel with fresh water afterward and dry them, or the metal parts will corrode.
Is it suitable for a beginner or a child?
Yes for a beginner — a spinning reel is the simplest to learn. A child can use it with an adult; the hooks are sharp and the kit has small parts.
Do I need a fishing license?
In most U.S. states, yes, for anyone over a certain age. The rules and the fees are set by each state, so check the state wildlife agency for the water you plan to fish.
How do I keep the rod from getting stuck or damaged?
Pull each section out until it is snug, never with a hard jerk. Close it from the handle end, pushing straight in rather than twisting. Wipe sand and grit off before you close it, and put the tip shell back on.
Does the color change what is in the kit?
No. Red, Blue and Green are the same rod, reel and accessories.
What is the difference between the three sets?
Full Kit is the rod, the spooled reel, the soft lures, two spoons, jig heads, hooks, the tackle box and the carry bag. Rod & Reel is the same rod and spooled reel on their own. Full Kit + 2nd Rod is the full kit plus a second rod and spooled reel in the same color; the second rod comes with its own lures, tackle box and bag at no extra cost.
The line does not run smoothly when I cast. Why?
When you open the rod, turn the sections so the guide rings sit in one straight row from the reel to the tip; twisted guides make the line rub. Open the bail before you cast and close it before you wind.
When will it arrive, and what if it is not right?
Orders are prepared in 1–3 business days and delivered in 7–15 business days from the ship date. You have 30 days from delivery to return it; tell us within 7 days if anything arrives damaged or if the wrong item was sent. Manufacturing defects are covered for 90 days.
